Cryolipolysis, also known as fat freezing, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that reduces fat by freezing and destroying fat cells. It targets stubborn pockets of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. The procedure is intended for fat reduction, not weight loss, and is typically used for localized fat deposits.
Cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, works by delivering controlled cooling to subcutaneous fat cells, causing them to crystallize and die through a process called apoptosis. These dead fat cells are then gradually eliminated from the body over several weeks and months via the lymphatic system and liver, leading to a reduction in the treated fat layer. The procedure is non-surgical and non-invasive, targeting fat cells that are more sensitive to cold than surrounding skin and tissues.
Cryolipolysis is a procedure designed for individuals who are close to their ideal body weight but have stubborn, localized areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It’s not a weight-loss solution for those who are obese or require medical weight management. The ideal candidate is generally healthy, with noticeable bulges in specific areas they want to address.
Consultation– You’ll meet with one of our experienced estheticians to discuss your goals, review your medical history, and make a treatment plan.
Before the Treatment– Avoid blood thinners medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, etc.) can increase bruising. Consult with your physician about discontinuing these, if appropriate, several days before treatment.
Protect the treatment area from sun exposure, as tanning can make the skin more sensitive.
Do not undergo laser treatments or other aggressive skin procedures in the targeted area for a couple of weeks prior to treatment.
Make sure the skin in the treatment area is healthy, free of cuts, bruises, or irritation. If there are any issues, postpone the treatment until the skin has healed.
Avoid consuming a heavy, greasy meal before the treatment, as this can lead to discomfort during the procedure.
Drinking plenty of water before, during, and after the treatment can aid in flushing out the dead fat cells.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine for a few hours before and after the treatment, as they can affect your body temperature and potentially impact the treatment.
How does the Treatment feel Like- most people experience sensations of intense cold and pressure, followed by numbness as the area cools. While some may feel mild discomfort like tingling, stinging, or cramping, these sensations typically subside within minutes as the area becomes numb.
Treatment time- 45 to 60 minutes
The Procedure
A special cooling applicator is placed over the targeted area of fat. Gel pads are used to protect the skin.
The applicator delivers controlled cold temperatures, which are set to freeze and crystallize the fat cells (adipocytes) beneath the skin.
The fat cells are more susceptible to the cold than other cells, leading to cold-induced apoptosis—a natural cell death process.
After the Treatment- Drinking plenty of water helps the body eliminate fat cells more efficiently. Massaging the treated area can help with circulation and reduce swelling. Avoid Excessive Heat: Saunas, hot baths, and steam rooms should be avoided to prevent increased inflammation. Light activities like walking or gentle stretching can be beneficial. Maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise routine is crucial for long-term results. Avoid Smoking and Excessive Alcohol.
Down time– cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure with minimal to no downtime. Most individuals can resume their normal daily activities, including work and exercise, immediately after treatment.
Side Effects–
Over the next few weeks and months, the crystallized fat cells are broken down and removed from the body. As the body eliminates the dead fat cells, the fat layer in the treated area condenses, resulting in a visible reduction in fat. The fat reduction is a gradual process. Your body will continue to flush out the dead fat cells through natural processes for up to four to six months after treatment.
The number of cryolipolysis sessions needed varies, but most people need one to three treatments to achieve their desired results. The specific number depends on factors like the amount of excess fat, the size of the treatment area, and individual goals. Some individuals with smaller areas of fat may only need one session, while others with more fat or larger areas may require multiple sessions, spaced several weeks apart.
Can I combine with other treatments?
We recommend to do RF body contouring or Hifu treatment to tightening the skin a month after the treatment.
