Fractional RF Microneedling

What is Fractional RF Microneedling?

Fractional RF microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and tighten skin. It involves creating micro-injuries on the skin’s surface with tiny needles while simultaneously delivering RF energy into the deeper layers. This dual action stimulates the skin’s natural healing response, boosting collagen and elastin production for a firmer, more youthful appearance.

How Fractional RF Microneedling works?

Microneedling-Tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, including collagen and elastin production.

Radiofrequency (RF) Energy-RF energy is delivered through the needles, heating the deeper layers of the skin. This heat further stimulates collagen production and skin tightening.

Fractional Approach-The needles and RF energy are delivered in a “fractional” manner, meaning they create a pattern of treated and untreated areas. This allows for faster healing and less downtime compared to traditional methods.

Who can benefit from Fractional RF Microneedling?

People with signs of aging: Those experiencing fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of skin elasticity can benefit from the collagen-stimulating effects of RF microneedling.

Individuals with acne scars: The treatment can help reduce the appearance of acne scars and improve overall skin texture.

Those with uneven skin tone and texture: RF microneedling can address pigmentation issues and smooth out uneven skin surfaces.

Individuals with stretch marks: The treatment can help minimize the appearance of stretch marks by promoting collagen production.

People with large pores: RF microneedling can help reduce pore size and improve skin texture.

Those with loose skin: The procedure can tighten loose skin on the face, neck, and body.

Individuals seeking a minimally invasive procedure: RF microneedling offers a less invasive alternative to surgical procedures for skin rejuvenation.

People with varying skin types and tones: Many RF microneedling devices are suitable for a wide range of skin types, including tanned and darker skin.

Sun Damage: Addresses sun damage, pigmentation, and other discoloration issues.

Rosacea: Can be used to treat rosacea and improve associated redness.

Hyperhidrosis: Helps in the management of excessive sweating, particularly in the armpits.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

Active Conditions: It is important to consult a dermatologist to determine if RF microneedling is appropriate for your specific medical history and any active skin conditions.

Timing for Injections: You will likely need to wait several weeks after receiving Botox (two weeks) or dermal fillers (two months) to avoid affecting injection sites and causing potentially unwanted results.

What to Expect?

Consultation– Your aesthetician will assess your skin, discuss your concerns, and create a personalized treatment plan for you..

Before the Treatment– To prepare for Fractional RF Microneedling, it’s crucial to protect your skin from sun exposure, discontinue certain skincare products, and potentially take preventative medication. Specifically, you should avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and tanning products for at least a week before the treatment. Also, stop using products with retinoids, strong acids, or exfoliants for several days beforehand. If you’re prone to cold sores, your practitioner may recommend an antiviral medication before the treatment.

How does the treatment feel like-

Pressure and Heat-The microneedles create a sensation of pressure as they puncture the skin, and the radiofrequency energy can feel warm or hot.
Mild Discomfort-Many patients experience mild discomfort, which can be described as a tingling, stinging, or pricking sensation.

Pain Tolerance-Pain is subjective, and some people are more sensitive than others. Topical numbing cream is typically applied before the treatment to help manage discomfort.

Variations-Some individuals may find the procedure more sensitive around areas like the forehead, hairline, and upper lip.

Post-Treatment-After the procedure, the treated area may appear red or slightly swollen, similar to a mild sunburn.

Recovery-Most people experience minimal downtime, with redness and swelling subsiding within a couple of days.

Individual Experience-The intensity of the sensations can vary based on individual pain tolerance, the specific device used, and the depth of treatment.

Treatment time- A typical Fractional RF Microneedling treatment session lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, but the exact duration can vary based on the size of the treated area

After the Treatment- Immediate Aftercare (0-2 Days):

Cool Compresses: Apply cool compresses or ice packs (with a barrier like a cloth) to reduce swelling and discomfort if necessary.

Moisturize: Keep the skin moisturized with a gentle, bland moisturizer as needed.

Avoid Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours, or ideally 3-4 days.

Sun Protection: Wear a high SPF sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

Sleep: Sleep with your head slightly elevated to minimize swelling.

Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water to cleanse the face after 24 hours.

Avoid Harsh Products: Avoid harsh topical products, retinoids, and alcohol-based toners.

No Strenuous Activity: Avoid strenuous physical activity and excessive sweating for at least 48 hours.

Down time– Fractional RF microneedling typically involves a short downtime, with redness and mild swelling being the most common side effects, usually resolving within a few days. More intense treatments might lead to flaking or peeling for up to 5 days. Patients can generally resume their regular skincare and makeup routine within 24-48 hours.

Side Effects– fractional RF microneedling, while generally safe, can have some side effects. The most common are temporary redness, swelling, and mild discomfort or pain.

Results to expect-Fractional RF microneedling offers several skin rejuvenation benefits, including improved texture and tone, reduced wrinkles and acne scars, and overall skin tightening. It also stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to a more youthful appearance. Results are typically visible within a few days, with continued improvement over several months as collagen regeneration occurs. The results of RF microneedling can be long-lasting, as the treatment stimulates the body’s natural collagen production processes.

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients need a series of 3 to 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. While some improvement may be noticeable after the second treatment, optimal results typically appear about three months after the final treatment.
